Trying to Get Pregnant?Make Sure Your Tubes Are Open.
Sometimes the missing piece isn't ovulation.
If a fallopian tube is blocked, the egg and sperm may never have the opportunity to meet.
HyFoSy is a quick, ultrasound-based test that allows us to evaluate your fallopian tubes right in our office — without X-ray radiation or iodine contrast.

You Can Be Ovulating —and Still Not Get Pregnant.
Pregnancy depends on more than releasing an egg. The fallopian tubes provide the pathway where sperm and egg can meet.
We've been trying, but nothing is happening.
You may be tracking ovulation perfectly and still not know whether your fallopian tubes are open.
My cycles seem normal.
Regular periods and ovulation do not tell us whether your tubes are patent.
I was told I need an HSG.
HyFoSy provides an ultrasound-based way to evaluate tubal patency without X-ray radiation or iodine contrast.
I've had endometriosis, infection or pelvic surgery.
These are among the reasons your physician may consider evaluating your fallopian tubes.
I'm starting a fertility workup.
Tubal evaluation can answer an important question before more time is spent trying without this information.
I want answers before taking the next step.
Understanding whether your tubes appear open can help your physician determine what evaluation may be appropriate next.
Sometimes the most useful next step isn't trying harder.
It's finding out what may be standing in the way.
See What's Happening.Without an X-Ray.
HyFoSy uses ExEm® Foam and transvaginal ultrasound to visualize the uterine cavity and assess whether contrast passes through the fallopian tubes.
Minutes
A short examination performed in our office.
No X-Ray Radiation
Tubal patency is evaluated using transvaginal ultrasound rather than fluoroscopy.
ExEm® Foam
The ultrasound contrast foam does not use iodinated radiographic contrast.
Discuss the Findings
Your physician can review the ultrasound findings with you after the examination.
Can Sperm and EggReach Each Other?
Open fallopian tubes are an important part of natural conception.
During HyFoSy, a thin catheter is gently placed through the cervix. A small amount of ExEm® Foam is introduced into the uterus while Dr. Bubucea follows its movement with transvaginal ultrasound.
When foam is visualized passing through a fallopian tube, the finding supports tubal patency. If expected passage is not seen, Dr. Bubucea can discuss whether additional evaluation is appropriate.
HyFoSy can help answer that question as part of your fertility evaluation.
One Test Is Notthe Whole Fertility Story.
Tubal patency is one part of a fertility evaluation. Your age, menstrual cycle, ovulation, medical and surgical history, ovarian factors and your partner's fertility may also matter.
The goal is not to order every test. It is to identify which information can meaningfully guide your next step.
A Simple In-OfficeFertility Test.
HyFoSy is generally performed during the first part of the menstrual cycle, after menstrual bleeding has ended and before ovulation, when pregnancy has been excluded and your physician determines the test is appropriate.
Schedule Your Evaluation
We review your cycle, fertility history and whether HyFoSy is appropriate for you.
Perform the Ultrasound Test
A thin catheter, ExEm® Foam and transvaginal ultrasound are used to evaluate tubal patency.
Discuss Your Next Step
Review the findings with Dr. Bubucea and determine whether any additional fertility evaluation is appropriate.
